Lower Limb Fellowship

We offer 2 fellowship positions, each for 12 months, that work across our network of hospitals, The Royal London Hospital, Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre and Whipps Cross University Hospital. Our team treat the full range of hip and knee conditions allowing us to customise the fellowships to a degree in order to provide an optimal experience suited to the successful applicant’s needs.

The fellowships provide solid grounding in primary hip and knee arthroplasty as well as exposure to complex revision surgery including peri-prosthetic fracture management, multi-stage revision and massive endo-prosthetic replacement. There is also scope for training in other aspects of hip and knee surgery including soft tissue knee reconstruction and hip arthroscopy.

BARTS BONE & JOINT HEALTH

What will you do as a fellow?

The two fellows alternate on a weekly basis covering each others leave and maximizing the opportunity for personal development & training. There will be the opportunity to participate in supervised operating lists, lists in parallel rooms and independent lower limb surgery in appropriately selected cases. The fellowship will provide increasing autonomy and independence as a candidate develops over time. Independent operating lists are fully backed up by MDT review, pre and post-op, to maximise progression.

The successful applicant(s) will work closely with all the consultants in the department, Mr Millington will act as the educational supervisor and the whole team will assist in mentoring. The fellowship has an excellent record of helping the applicants directly move on to substantive consultant posts.

The on-call commitment is consultant/attending grade, with support as required, at Whipps Cross University Hospital. This provides fellows with senior decision-making opportunity in the emergency setting to maximise opportunities for securing onward employment.
